Guruvayur is a famous pilgrim destination of international fame, located in the Thrissur District of Kerala State, which has acquired Municipal status in the year 1994. Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple is the central and main attraction of the town. Millions of devotees visit this shrine every year with utmost faith in their hearts and Lord Guruvayurappan (Sri Krishna) never turns them away disapointed. Guruvayur town shows an urban character towards the core area and the peripheral area shows semi urban character. Since the formation of Guruvayur Township in 1962, efforts were begun to control the growth and development of the town. Haphazard growth of the central area surrounding the temple and further expansion of the town demanded the preparation of a new master plan for the present Guruvayur Municipality, and the council unanimously decided to prepare the Master Plan. Now the plan is prepared and I am sure that this plan can definitely help to transform Guruvayur town in to a more livable space for the generations to come.
